Winter natural light portrait sessions

Studio sessions with available daylight. Simple, soft gorgeous light coming through the fluffy snow and soft clouds of winter.

Thank you to all of those that came to the studio on such a cold snowy day.

Rachel, a new mother.

Sara an amazing makeup artist.

Jason and Dina, the newlyweds.

Soleil, a very confident teenager.

Winter studio light portraits

Working in the studio allows for more consistent weather, which clients prefer when it’s 10 degrees outside. So this time of the year gives me the chance to play around and experiment with lighting setups that I usually don’t get to use that often.  Some of my light modifiers are not easy to move around on location or like the wind way too much. My choice for the sessions below was my 27.5″ cm Elinchrom beauty dish, it produces gorgeous light and it’s one of my favorite modifier choices.  It can be used bare, with a soft sock, or a grid. Each one producing a different quality of light.

My other favorite light modifier is the 53″ Elinchrom Rotalux Octabox.  It produces gorgeous soft light and is my favorite for children’s portraits.

And lastly the 27″ Elinchrom Rotalux Octabox.  Same as the 53″ but a bit more manageable in small spaces and great for tight portraits.

A huge thank you to those who braved the cold to come to the studio!!!
